I’m not that comfortable with clay on a sensory level, so it wasn’t my intention to create a hand in the shape of the black power/unity salute. However, fortunately, I was able to create a clenched fist from the shape that presented itself to me.
As a black woman who is an adult CSA survivor, I have observed that within the black community, the level of SILENCE surrounding the topic of child sexual abuse is deafening. Before I dared to start sharing my story privately, I felt as though I was possibly the only black adult CSA survivor.
Well, just the two of us, me and Oprah, that is.
