Keeping A Lid On It

(An analogy for life and managing trauma)

During Covid-19, I was fortunate to have access to CSA telephone counselling. Talking therapy has been hugely beneficial, but I found art, craft and media sessions undertaken as a group have made as big an impact on my ‘recovery’ - unexpectedly.

Physically creating this pot was therapeutic as my hands worked, and my brain had time to process experiences and how they’ve shaped me.

My hands ‘shaped’ a pot - my conscience was determined it needed a lid. “Keeping a Lid on it” had had its day - secrets, contained for over 55 years, could now be metaphorically released into the ether. I doubt the lid will be put on again.

The light colours represent how I now feel - lighter, brighter, optimistic. I cannot change the past, but I can actively work on how I live the remainder of my days, and I choose light.
